40,000 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN
DIAGNOSED WITH COELIAC
DISEASE IN SPAIN
YET, IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THE TOTAL NUMBER OF CASES
MAY RISE TO 400,000

According to the Spanish Federation of Coeliac Associations, there are 40,000 people diagnosed with ceoliac disease, a figure that is growing by 15% annually. However, since it is an infra-diagnosed disease, it is estimated that the real number of cases is around 400,000 individuals. Coeliac disease is an hereditary chronic dysfunction that is characterised by permanent intolerance to gluten, a protein present in wheat, oats, barley and rye, and which produces a severe lesion in the digestive system for gluten-intolerant people.

People with coeliac disease are therefore unable to eat any food that contains these cereals, even staple foods such as bread or pasta and other common foods such as popcorn, ready-meals, cakes, sweets or beer.
For this reason, Estrella Damm Daura, suitable for people with coeliac disease, has added to the range of special products available that make it possible for thousands of people with coeliac disease to lead more enjoyable lives.
