The capital of Malta
 
	        Situated on a peninsula in the central-eastern region of the island of Malta.
 
	        Valletta is home to buildings that date back to the 16th century.
 
	        The city has been recognised as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
 
	        The city is named after Jean Parisot de La Valette, who defended the island from an invasion.
